Serving the Community

The Practice takes an active role in community development. We were the first shareholders to sign up to support both the Mansfield branch of the Bendigo Bank and the Mansfield Armchair Cinema. We have also pledged to a regular significant annual donation to The Friday Foundation, The Mansfield Community Fund, and Friends of Venilale (a sister town project with East Timor). Central General Practice also donates to community sporting organisations such as the Mansfield Bowls Club, the Police Golf Day, and the Mansfield Football and Netball Club. Lastly, we support education initiatives for indigenous students to enter medical school in Australia, and students studying medicine in Kenya.

  • Working at Central General Practice

I moved from Sydney to Mansfield three years ago as a GP registrar with the Bogong training network. Mansfield has ticked every important box as far as my ideal town to live and work in. It has a wonderful warm and eclectic community with artists, business owners intellectuals, sports enthusiasts, farmers, nature lovers and tradesmen all happily rubbing shoulders at the local Produce store and restaurants in town.

Whether you are a horse rider, cyclist, fisherman, aspiring actor, musician, photographer, bushwalker or book lover, there is most likely a community group with like-minded people you can join. The scenery is simply spectacular with four very distinct seasons. I cannot imagine a more enjoyable place to work as a doctor than in Mansfield. The patient profile is challenging but enjoyable, the doctors are a friendly bunch with warm relationships both at work and socially. I have bought a property just outside Mansfield and am enjoying a lifestyle I could only dream of before. If you are thinking of making a tree-change, Mansfield is not a bad place to come to….

“The recorded history of Mansfield which dates back to the 1830’s is a story of adventure, courage and determination, and as was the case with so many other rural settlements, its fortunes fluctuated as it passed from the 19th to the 20th century.

Mansfield is located 200 kilometres north-east of Melbourne, Victoria in a wide valley surrounded by mountain ranges.  To the west lie the Strathbogies and The Paps;  north-west, Mount Samaria;  north, the Tolmie Plateau;  east the Great Divide with Mounts Buller, Stirling and Timbertop (or Warrambat as it was called);  and to the south, the low hills of the Blue Range.  These mountains give raise to the Broken, Howqua, Jamieson, Goulburn, Delatite and Big Rivers.”
